Jerone Morton, a 6-foot-4 guard originally from Lexington, signed to join the Kentucky men’s basketball team, according to a May 1 announcement. Morton is entering his senior year and brings experience from both Washington State and Morehead State.
Morton’s addition is notable as he returns to play in his home state after spending the previous season at Washington State. There, he started in 29 of 32 games and averaged 7.8 points and 2.6 assists per game. He posted shooting percentages of 43.8 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from three-point range, and made over eighty-two percent of his free throws.
Some of Morton’s top performances last season came against strong competition. He scored a season-high sixteen points against Gonzaga in January and recorded nine assists at St. Mary’s during another key matchup against an NCAA Tournament team.
Before transferring to Washington State, Morton played two seasons at Morehead State where he was part of an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament-winning squad that reached the NCAA Tournament as a freshman. As a sophomore at Morehead State, he started twenty games and averaged double-digit scoring while leading the team in assists and steals.
Morton has appeared in ninety-two college games with fifty-one starts across three seasons, averaging career numbers of six-and-a-half points, just over two rebounds, and just over two assists per game.
A product of George Rogers Clark High School in Kentucky, Morton won a KHSAA State Championship there in 2022—scoring fourteen points in the title game—and was named tournament Most Valuable Player. In his final high school season he helped lead his team back to the state title game while averaging more than eighteen points per contest.
