The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that in-person licensing services, written permit testing, and driver testing will resume at the Jackson Driver Licensing Regional Office flagship location beginning Monday, Feb. 23.

The resumption of services follows a temporary relocation to the Breathitt County Public Library due to insufficient heating during a late January winter storm that brought prolonged cold temperatures. The return to the permanent office at 1127 Main Street in Jackson, Kentucky, will restore full staffing and all services.

“We are grateful to the local library for hosting us so we could maintain critical licensing services in the area while ensuring the safety of our staff and the people we serve as we faced an extreme weather event (…) We are pleased to restore services at full capacity,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Deputy Secretary Jeremy Slinker said.

According to the announcement, Kentucky’s 34 other regional office locations remained open during this period. Residents are reminded that some licensing services can be completed by mail or online. To check eligibility and available services, or to schedule an appointment, individuals can visit drive.ky.gov.

All driver testing must be scheduled through the Kentucky State Police’s website at kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov/driver-testing. Applicants are advised to bring all required documentation—including proof of identity such as a birth certificate (not a photocopy), proof of Social Security, and a School Compliance Verification Form—to their appointments. The Kentucky Driver Manual is available online for study prior to testing; those who do not pass may schedule another appointment using the online portal.
