WKU Baseball defeated Middle Tennessee 11-0 in a seven-inning game on May 2 at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
The win marks the Hilltoppers’ largest margin of victory over Middle Tennessee since the 2004 season and featured strong performances both offensively and defensively.
Lane Arroyos led WKU’s offense with four hits, two runs, and an RBI. Gavin Perry pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out six batters while walking one. This was the first complete game shutout by a Hilltopper pitcher since the 2023 season.
In the first inning, WKU scored six runs before an out was recorded, with contributions from Austin Haller, Kyle Hayes, Lane Arroyos, Camden Ross, Daniel Stewart, Reid Howard, and Parker Coley. The team continued to add runs in subsequent innings through timely hitting and capitalizing on errors by Middle Tennessee.
Head coach Marc Rardin said “This was exactly what we needed. Gavin today with his seven innings, five hits, no runs, one walk, and six strikeouts did a tremendous job. We needed that from him. We were able to set the tone early in the first inning by getting those six runs.” Other notable performances included Reid Howard going three-for-four with two RBIs and Daniel Stewart adding two hits and two RBIs.
The Hilltoppers will conclude their series against Middle Tennessee on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
