Murray State Baseball lost the final game of its weekend series at Purdue, 17-8, on May 3 as the Boilermakers completed a sweep. This marks the third time this season that the Racers have been swept, with each instance occurring during away games.

The game was marked by high scoring and challenging defensive play. Both teams combined for 25 runs and 22 hits over more than three and a half hours. Murray State committed three errors during the contest.

Kingsley Guthrie hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning, tying the score at 6-6. The two-run homer also extended Murray State’s streak to three consecutive games with a home run. Luke Mistone contributed with a two-run single in the third inning, increasing his season RBI total to 47. Anthony Perritano added two sacrifice flies for additional runs, becoming only the second Racer this year to record multiple sacrifice flies in one game.

After Guthrie’s homer tied things up, Purdue responded by scoring seven runs in their half of the sixth inning. During that frame, Murray State allowed five free passes—including four walks and one hit-by-pitch—along with two wild pitches.

In late innings, Kainen Jorge brought in a run with a sacrifice fly while Colby Ott delivered an RBI single. Despite these efforts, Murray State could not overcome Purdue’s lead. Ott, Daylan Pena, and Kristofer Hokenson each had multi-hit performances for Murray State.

Six pitchers appeared for Murray State throughout the game; Drew Deremer led them by pitching four innings but allowed seven runs (six earned) and received credit for his first loss of the season (now holding a record of 3-1). The Racers will return home Tuesday to host UT Martin in a non-conference matchup.
