Gov. Andy Beshear announced on March 25 that a new fast-charging electric vehicle station has opened at Casey’s Store in Glasgow, Kentucky. The site is the sixth charging station in the state to be established through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which is administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Beshear said, “Electric vehicles are no longer the technology of the future, they’re here now. That’s why Team Kentucky is continuing its work to ensure our families and businesses have the charging network needed to get where they are going.”
The Glasgow location, situated at 557 S.L. Rogers Wells Blvd. near Exit 11 off the Cumberland Expressway, features four ports capable of charging at up to 400 kilowatts each. The project was approved in May 2024 and received $706,000 from Kentucky’s EV Charging Program. Francis Energy built, maintains and operates the stations at this site, while Caseys serves as the host.
David Jankowsky, Founder and CEO of Francis Energy, said, “Opening our first EV charging stations in Kentucky is an exciting milestone for Francis Energy. We are grateful to Governor Beshear and the entire team at KYTC for their partnership with Francis Energy to provide equitable, affordable, reliable, and safe access to public charging stations across the Commonwealth. We look forward to continuing to focus on sustainability and innovation in communities across the state.”
Kentucky has obligated $55 million in NEVI funds for fast-charging stations throughout its interstates and parkways. Each station must offer at least four charging ports of 150 kilowatts or more and be accessible around-the-clock for most electric vehicle models. Developers are required to fund a minimum of 20% of construction and operational costs as well as maintain operations for five years.
