WKU Baseball defeated Middle Tennessee 9-8 on May 3 at Reese Smith Jr. Field, with Cael Frost playing a key role by hitting two two-run home runs and tallying three hits in the game.
The victory is significant as it gives the Hilltoppers their third straight series win over Middle Tennessee and marks their first road-series win of the season. WKU improved its record to 26-22 overall and 11-13 in Conference USA play.
The game saw WKU come from behind after trailing early. After Middle Tennessee took a four-run lead, the Hilltoppers responded with strong offensive performances, including solo and multi-run homers by Austin Haller and Frost. The bullpen contributed several innings, with Ka’olu Holt earning the win and Nathan Lawson securing his fourth save for WKU.
Head coach Marc Rardin said about the team’s performance, “This weekend was big. It was a knock down, drag out game that we ended up winning and we did a really good job today.” On Frost’s contribution, Rardin said, “He’s done stuff like this his whole career. This year may not have gone as planned but he’s a class act kid and is really deserving of it. He’s grinded and has really started to have some good days and put some things together and he put it all together today.”
Other notable performances included Haller’s home run—his third of the season—and contributions from Lane Arroyos, JP Acosta, Parker Coley, Daniel Stewart, Kyle Hayes, and Reid Howard who each added runs or hits for WKU.
Looking ahead, WKU will host EKU in their final midweek matchup on Wednesday at Nick Denes Field.
