FOIA Request to Whitley County Sheriff’s Office regarding the number of job applications and tracking on August 14, 2025.

The Bluegrass Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office. The request seeks information under the Kentucky Open Records Act § 61.872 et seq., specifically asking for data related to job applications received by the office. The requested details include:

1. The number of job applications received by week, month, or year.
2. Identification of the department or individual responsible for tracking these application numbers.

The request was made in an effort to ensure transparency and accountability within local governmental affairs. As part of their professional responsibilities, members of the media require access to public records to provide accurate news coverage and hold public institutions accountable.

In addition, Bluegrass Times has requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request, citing their role as a media organization committed to disseminating information to the public. They are also affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating government actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
