The Eastern Kentucky University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Austin Peay on May 1, falling to third place in the ASUN Gold Division.

The outcome was significant as the Colonels had an opportunity to move into first place with a strong performance. Instead, they dropped both contests and slipped in the standings.

In the first game, neither team scored until the fifth inning when Kennedy Drafton hit an RBI single for EKU. The Colonels held their lead until a solo home run by Austin Peay tied the game in the seventh inning. The contest went into extra innings, where Austin Peay won with a run in the ninth.

Game two saw Austin Peay take control early, scoring four runs in the first inning and ultimately defeating EKU 8-0 through a run-rule decision. A three-run home run contributed to their early advantage, and errors by EKU helped seal their loss.

The series is set to conclude Saturday with another matchup between Eastern Kentucky University and Austin Peay.
