Eastern Kentucky University announced on Apr. 14 that Drae Vasser, a 6-foot-1 guard from Louisville, Kentucky, has signed to play basketball for the Colonels starting in the 2026-27 season.

Vasser brings notable experience after spending two seasons at Vincennes University. Following a redshirt year in 2024-25, he averaged 17.6 points, 5.9 assists, five rebounds and 1.1 steals per game this past season and earned First Team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America honors. He shot 46 percent from the field and made 41 percent of his three-point attempts, sinking a total of ninety-four shots from beyond the arc while also converting eighty-three percent of his free throws.

“Drae is a dynamic guard and an elite playmaker,” said EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton. “He has unlimited range and plays with a fearless mentality. He’s a leader, he’s tough and most importantly he’s a winner.”

During his time at Vincennes University, Vasser was named Region 24 Player of the Year and selected to the First Team All-Region list. He scored forty points in one game against Olney Central College on Feb. 25 by shooting thirteen-of-twenty-three from the field, seven-of-fifteen from three-point range and seven-of-eight at the free throw line; he also recorded thirty points against Lake Land College on Feb.18.

Vasser showed versatility by handing out eleven assists in two games during the season as well as reaching double-digit rebounds several times—including twelve rebounds against Lake Land College—and helped lead Vincennes to a thirty-one-and-three record with an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Before college, Vasser played at Trinity High School where he averaged fourteen point two points and four point seven rebounds as a senior while shooting fifty-two percent from the field and thirty-six percent on three-pointers; he earned third team all-state recognition after helping his team reach district and region championships along with an appearance in Kentucky’s state elite eight.
