The Eastern Kentucky University softball team lost to Marshall, 6-1, in its final home game of the season on April 21.

The outcome marked the last appearance at Gertrude Hood Field for senior pitcher Emma Bethel. Four different pitchers took the mound for Eastern Kentucky during the contest.

Marshall’s decisive five-run fourth inning made the difference in a game that had been close through three innings. The Colonels managed four hits and left six runners on base over seven innings.

Lilly Davis provided Eastern Kentucky’s only run with a solo home run in the second inning, her second consecutive homer after also hitting one against Central Arkansas. Marshall responded with a solo home run in the third to tie it before capitalizing on an error and timely hits in the fourth to take control of the game.

Eastern Kentucky threatened again in the sixth when Kennedy Drafton reached third base, but a double play ended their rally attempt. The loss closed out their home schedule for this season.

Looking ahead, Eastern Kentucky will travel to Bellarmine for an in-state conference series next weekend. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday and concludes Sunday, with Saturday’s games available via streaming on ESPN+.
