Eastern Kentucky Colonels lose series finale to Central Arkansas Bears

Eastern Kentucky University lost 9-6 in the series finale against Central Arkansas on Sunday, April 19.

The game saw Eastern Kentucky take an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Dylan Littlefield drove in Pedro Moreno with a ground out, and Jackson Cauthron followed with a double to make it 2-0. However, Central Arkansas responded strongly in the second inning, scoring five runs. Casey Shipley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the Bears’ first run, and Zeb Allen hit a grand slam to give Central Arkansas a 5-2 advantage.

Central Arkansas extended its lead to 7-2 by the third inning. Eastern Kentucky attempted a comeback with two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth when Littlefield hit a solo home run, narrowing the gap to three runs. In the seventh inning, Moreno grounded out but brought home another run for Eastern Kentucky, making it an 8-6 game.

Littlefield finished with one hit in four at-bats along with two RBIs and one run scored. Moreno contributed by going one-for-three at bat, drawing two walks and recording both an RBI and a run scored. For Central Arkansas, Parker Gwyn went two-for-three at bat with three runs scored while Allen led offensively going three-for-five with four RBIs.

Eastern Kentucky will next host Western Kentucky on Tuesday at 6 p.m., offering $2 tickets as well as discounted concessions including popcorn, hot dogs and beer. EKU baseball t-shirts will also be given away during that game.
