The Eastern Kentucky University football team concluded its spring practice schedule on April 25 with the annual Spring Game, presented by CG Bank. The defense delivered a strong performance at Roy Kidd Stadium, outscoring the offense 39-10.

The event marked the end of the team’s preparations for the upcoming season. The defense, referred to as “Maroon Doom,” recorded a touchdown, two interceptions, and two red zone stops. The unit also kept the offense from scoring during running clock periods in the second half and late-game situations.

Redshirt senior defensive back Jeffrey Kinley and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Preston Swope each registered seven tackles to lead all players. Graduate transfer Jackson Marshall contributed five tackles and one tackle for loss. Sophomore defensive back Tavarion James and redshirt freshman linebacker Davion Sturgis both made interceptions for Eastern Kentucky.

On offense, redshirt senior kicker Buzz Flabiano started scoring with a 48-yard field goal. The offensive unit accumulated 418 total yards while rotating between quarterbacks Tyler Travers and Jordyn Potts. Travers completed 12 of 21 passes for 126 yards and threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Elijah Caldwell in the second quarter; Potts finished with seven completions on seventeen attempts for sixty-three yards.

Four running backs combined for a total of 229 rushing yards. Redshirt freshman Peyton Smith led this group with eighty-one yards on twenty-nine carries, while redshirt freshman Cortez Stone added seventy-two yards and junior Brady Hensley contributed fifty-two rushing yards.

Head coach Walt Wells was joined by Flabiano and redshirt junior offensive lineman Avery Ferris in meeting with media after the game.
