The City of Fort Thomas announced on May 8 that it will hold a community bike ride in memory of Sam Scott, who was killed in 2012 after being struck by a drunk driver while biking home. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Tower Park.
The gathering aims to raise awareness about bike safety and remember the impact of traffic incidents on individuals and families. Organizers say the ride is not about speed but about reflection and promoting safer streets for everyone.
“Not every ride needs to be a race,” the statement reads. “Sometimes, the most meaningful moments on two wheels come when you slow down. But we also ride slow for a deeper reason— like remembering Sam Scott, who was tragically killed in 2012 when a drunk driver hit him from behind as he biked home.”
The city encourages participation as a way to support safer roadways and community togetherness: “By taking it slow, we honor Sam’s memory, promote safer streets, and remind drivers and riders alike that every life on the road matters. Join us on Sunday, May 17 at 1:30pm at Tower Park to help celebrate his life and to bring about awareness to bike safety.”
Fort Thomas regularly promotes community engagement through events such as walks and gatherings while maintaining parks and recreational facilities for public use, according to the official website. The city operates under an elected mayor-council government structure and provides fire and police services alongside organizing these activities.
Looking ahead, officials say ongoing efforts will focus on fostering safe environments for residents through continued public safety initiatives and events designed to bring people together.
