Several members of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels women’s beach volleyball team received postseason honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference, according to an April 21 announcement by the conference.

The recognition comes after a strong regular season for the Colonels. Senior Molly Shomock was named to the All-ASUN Second Team, finishing with a 17-11 record overall and a 6-2 mark in conference play. Shomock and her partner Riley Cutler competed at both the No. 1 and No. 2 flights, going 10-9 and 7-2 respectively. Their standout performance included a three-set win over North Florida’s top pair.

This honor is notable as it marks only the second time in program history that a Colonel has been selected for all-conference recognition, following Paityn Walker’s achievement last year.

Freshman Sutton Sales earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team with her own impressive record of 17-10 this season. Sales played primarily at the No. 4 flight, posting a 14-9 mark there, and is just one win away from tying EKU’s freshman wins record. She began her collegiate career alongside fellow freshman Carlyn Mcallister with seven consecutive victories.

In addition to athletic accomplishments, Gabriella Armitage, Sami Deidesheimer, Arilyn Lee, and Molly Shomock were named to the Academic All-ASUN Team for their achievements both on court and academically.

The Colonels will next compete in Huntsville at the ASUN Championship against Florida Gulf Coast University after what has been described as a historic regular season.
