The Bowling Green Police Department has announced the arrest of Sergio Enrique Cruz Ramos, 45, on charges of rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse following allegations from two juveniles.

According to detectives with the Bowling Green Police Department, Cruz Ramos was taken into custody after a two-year investigation into sexual abuse allegations involving two juvenile victims. The police determined through witness interviews and forensic review that Cruz Ramos committed multiple sexual acts against the victims over the span of two years. He has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse involving victims under 12 years old. Investigators say additional charges may follow as the case develops.

Under Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) §510.040 and §510.070, first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy involving a victim under 12 are classified as Class A felonies, punishable by 20 to 50 years or life imprisonment. First-degree sexual abuse under KRS §510.110 is a Class C felony carrying 5 to 10 years in prison. The Kentucky Court of Justice notes that cases involving child victims typically mandate lifetime sex offender registration and extended post-incarceration supervision.

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) reported in its 2024 crime report that there were 1,072 arrests statewide for child sexual offenses, marking a 7% increase from the prior year as digital forensics units expand their investigations into online and familial abuse cases. KSP attributes the rise to enhanced collaboration between local police departments—such as Bowling Green PD—and state task forces targeting child exploitation.

The Bowling Green Police Department serves as the primary law enforcement agency for Bowling Green, Kentucky, serving a population of more than 75,000 residents. Established in 1837, it operates specialized units focusing on crimes involving minors and sexual offenses.
