The Murray State track and field team finished the regular season with two event wins and several personal bests at the Music City Championships, according to a May 4 announcement.

The meet was important for the Racers as it marked their final competition before heading into postseason championships. Several athletes achieved new marks that moved them up in the school’s all-time top-10 lists.

Katie Schneider won the pole vault by clearing 3.81 meters, while Serena Blackwood took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.35 seconds. Other notable performances included Breece Bass running 54.17 in the 400 meters, Jordin Noah clocking 55.35 in the same event, Ainsley Smith finishing the 800 meters in 2:10.48, Cheyenne Melvin posting a time of 2:05.60 in her own race, Katie Schneider’s pole vault mark of 3.81 meters, and Jocelyn Host running an outdoor personal best of 10:03.91 in the 3000 meters.

“There were some great performances heading into the championships in two weeks,” head coach Adam Kiesler said. “We saw kids fight to move up the conference lists to earn spots in the meet, and we also saw kids continue to improve at the right time. We will take this next week off and focus on finals and getting everything ready for the championships.” Kiesler said that preparing for upcoming championship meets will be their main focus during this break.

Murray State is scheduled to compete again at the Missouri Valley Conference outdoor championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, which are set for two weeks from now.
