Bellarmine University’s baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Austin Peay on April 17, falling 16-6 in the first game and 5-2 in the second at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The results are significant as they impact Bellarmine’s record in the ASUN conference, with both teams now holding a 9-8 mark in league play. The outcomes also reflect ongoing challenges for Bellarmine as they approach the final game of their series.

In Game 1, Bellarmine took an early lead after Luca Hoerger delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to put the Knights ahead 2-1 in the second inning. Sawyer Pace added an RBI double and Luke Scales contributed a sacrifice fly in the fifth to increase their run total. However, Austin Peay responded by scoring three runs each in both the second and third innings and continued to pull away with multi-run efforts later, ultimately winning by ten runs.

Game 2 was more closely contested. Austin Peay gained control with four runs scored during the third inning thanks to two home runs. Bellarmine narrowed the gap when Sawyer Pace drove in Charlie Rife with an RBI single during the fifth inning and Jake Bell hit a solo home run one inning later. In their last strong chance, Bellarmine loaded the bases with two outs but could not capitalize as Austin Peay forced a fielder’s choice out at home plate.

Austin Peay secured its victory by adding another run late while preventing any further comeback attempts from Bellarmine.

The series between Bellarmine (16-22 overall) and Austin Peay (19-20 overall) will conclude Sunday afternoon.
